Server Licences
Server licences are required in order to install and use windows operating system software on the server. One licence is required per installation. Most server licences for Windows server operating systems also include 5 or more client access licences (CALs).
User CALs
One User CAL allows one individual user to access and use a particular server operating system package, regardless of what devic - For example, a user with an Exchange Server User CAL can access his or her exchange inbox from any device with just the one CAL. An alternative to user CALs are Device CALs.
Device CALs
One Device CAL allows one PC/device to access and use a particular server operating system package, regardless of who the user is - For example, a device with a Server 2008 CAL can access the server regardless of who is using it. An alternative to Device CALs are User CALs.
