Server licences are required in order to install and use windows operating system software on the server. One licence is required per installation. Most server licences for Windows server operating systems also include 5 or more client access licences (CALs).
One User CAL allows one individual user to access and use a particular server operating system package, regardless of what devic - For example, a user with an Exchange Server User CAL can access his or her exchange inbox from any device with just the one CAL. An alternative to user CALs are Device CALs.
